GOD'S LAND Style & Format |

“The greatness of art is not to find what is common but what is unique.” – Isaac Bashevis Singer
God’s Land will be shot on High Definition, in New York City, Long Island and Taipei, English and Mandarin. Action will unfold in long takes and a contemplative style, with emphasis on the ‘moment’ rather than dialogue or exposition. With panoramic camera work and simple but dramatic lighting the film will contrast the ‘other-worldliness’ of this religious group with the more ‘worldly’ needs of XIU and the Texans: a family in white hats and jump suits, under a hot Texan sun, staring at the sky like visitors from some far off planet.
The soundtrack will be sparse to allow the story to seep into the viewer honestly without relying on emotional cues. That being said a few melodies from the classic ‘country-western’ era will creep in alluding to heartache and struggle of people in love no matter where they were from. Other tunes will illuminate the various other ethnicities found in present day Texas.
